Pinellas County, Florida -- The Florida Department of Transportation released the following lane closure information for the week of Aug. 12 - Aug. 18. Plan accordingly!

US 19 between Whitney Road and SR 60

Widening – Nightly lane closures Sunday – Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

SR 60 between Old Coachman Park and Park Place

Work associated with the US 19 widening project – Nightly lane closures Sunday – Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

PSTA sets 6th monthly ridership record this year

PSTA sets 6th monthly ridership record this year

Pinellas County, Florida -- For the month of July, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority set another monthly ridership record marking the seventh monthly record dating back to November 2011.

PSTA says last month, the transit agency gave 1,205,256 rides, which is more than any other July in agency history and an impressive 14% jump over July 2011.

PSTA officials say the are thrilled with steady increase in ridership and that repeated record breaking ridership in so many months is proof positive that people in the Tampa Bay area are want to ride transit.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- No doubt you're feeling the pinch at the pump. Gas prices have jumped more than a dime since last week.

Analysts weren't expecting an uptick but news of more U.S. jobs pushed oil prices to $91 a barrel sparking the increase at the pump. 

The average price for a gallon of regular here in the Sunshine state $3.53 a gallon. That's 8 cents less than the national average.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- This week the Florida Department of Transportation plans to close the eastbound lanes of the Bayway Bridge from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2 and Friday, Aug. 3.

FDOT may change this schedule depending on the weather.

FDOT workers will make sure emergency vehicles can get through the work zone as needed. Workers will not necessarily have eastbound lanes closed all day, however drivers should anticipate closures and pay attention to the flashing signs situated around St. Pete Beach and the bridge for more information.

PSTA to get new buses

PSTA to get new buses

Pinellas County, Florida -- In about a year, residents will be seeing new environmentally-friendly PSTA buses all across the county!

The Federal Transit Authority has awarded the PSTA $2.6 million to replace aging buses in the fleet with new fuel-efficient, disel-electric hybrid buses.

Road Closed near Azalea Park through August 3

St. Petersburg, Florida--  Starting tomorrow, motorists traveling in the area of Azalea Park will need to make a slight route adjustment to accommodate work on a neighborhood drainage project.

Motorists will find 74th St. N. between 13th and 16th Aves. N. closed to through traffic during the project, which is expected to last through Friday, August 3.

A planned detour of 13th Ave. N. east to 72nd St., north on 72nd St. to 16th Ave., then west back to 74th St. N. will be in place.

Only local traffic will be allowed inside the construction zone.

Pinellas County DUI "Wolf Pack" Operation results

Pinellas County, Florida-- his past weekend, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office conducted a DUI "Wolf Pack" Operation in an effort to reduce DUI related injuries, and they have released the results.

According to deputies, the following citations were given during the operation:

  • 6 DUI's
  • 2 Driving While License Suspended/Revoked (DWLSR)
  • 10 Citations
  • 2 Written Warnings 

The operation took place from 9 p.m. on Friday night through 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
