Rowdies, Rays, Backyard BBQ highlight Memorial Day events

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Summer in St. Petersburg officially kicks off this weekend with an events lineup that is sure to please with sports, music, food, the outdoors and arts and culture stretching from Tropicana Field to the waterfront.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies will play host to the Minnesota Stars FC tonight, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Tampa, Florida-- Clear Channel and 620 WDAE announced today that Tom Jones and Rick Stroud will host the new morning show, beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, May 22. 

Clear Channel released the following information this afternoon: 

Jones and Stroud will provide full Tampa Bay sports coverage weekday mornings from 6 - 9 a.m.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- This Sunday, May 20, fisherman will gather for a fishing classic to help raise money for the Simpson Breast Health Center at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills.

The 2nd Annual Inshore Catch & Release Fishing Tournament for trout and redfish will be held at the Magnuson Hotel at Marina Cove in St. Petersburg.

St. Pete kicks off summer with water safety day

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The city's Parks and Recreation kicks off summer fun with an informative day focused on water safety on May 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Fossil Park Pool, located at 6739 Martin Luther King Jr. Street N.

Activities include in-pool swim evaluations for children 2 years old and up by certified swim instructors, diving demos, and healthy cooking demos.

Resources and guidance for water safety and swimming lessons, FSPA pool vendors, swim team information, prizes and refreshments are available.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Bikers can combine their love for the road and tour some of the city's best restaurants as part of the upcoming St. Pete Bike 'n Eat.

Registration is open now for the Saturday, May 12 event.

Cyclists will bike from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., stopping at four area restaurants.

They'll cap the night with pizza and cold brews at the Trek Bicycle Store on 4th Street North.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Make it marine week June 18 - 22. The new Aquatic Summer Camp is an adventure for children ages 8 to 12 to experience marine life, explore our water ways and learn how to be safe in, on, and around the water.

Activities include kayaking, sailing, fishing, and a trip to see Winter the Dolphin at the Clearwater Marina.

Camp is daily Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Shore Aquatic Complex, 901 North Shore Drive NE.
