Pinellas County, Florida -- The Housing Finance Authority of Pinellas County is sponsoring a Community Real Estate Development program at the University of South Florida.

The program offers practical training for staff responsible for creating successful affordable housing and community based real estate development programs.

This month’s focus is the HOPE (Home Ownership for People Everywhere) Expo, coming to the Raymond James Financial Center on Saturday, June 8, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The expo offers a vast amount of information on home ownership, as well a daylong HomeBuyer Workshop. Tampa real estate booming; leads state

Tampa, Florida-- The numbers are in, and they are up! More homes were sold last month in the Tampa Bay area than in in the past seven years combined.

According to MLS figures, 3,100 homes were sold in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties last month, a 7 percent increase compared to the same month in 2012.

Home sales prices also increased, up 22 percent over the same time period. 

The average home in the Tampa Bay area sold for $150,000.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Fair Housing Consortium will present Housing Choices, Free of Discrimination on Friday, April 19.

Check-in is at 8 a.m. The program runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The day-long conference will be held at the Centre Club, 123 S. West Shore Blvd. in Tampa.

St. Pete Beach, Florida -- I want people to know the Beach Theatre isn’t for sale,” the voice on the phone said.

That voice was Mike France, the Hollywood screenwriter who grew up in the area, moved back, bought the Beach Theatre, and then went mysteriously quiet as the Theatre closed, opened, and then, in what seemed a death knell, closed for good a few months ago with the sign “Thanks for the memories” on the marquee.

St. Pete Beach, Florida – City commissioners granted the new owners of the long-abandoned The Hotel Zamora permission to build 50 hotel rooms in the boutique-style hotel the new owners plan to build in the white shell sitting on the corner of 37th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard.

County Health Department Center reopens Jan. 28

Pinellas County has announced its Health Department's Clearwater center will reopen to serve the community on Monday, Jan. 28.

It had been closed for renovations since late July.
