Heritage Village comes alive with folk festivities

Pinellas County, FL -- Centennial celebrations continue at Heritage Village with the Pinellas Folk Festival taking place on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dozens of the Tampa Bay area's premier folk musicians will spread the sounds of traditional folk, gospel, country and bluegrass music on stages throughout the village.

Commissioner John Morroni announces return of cancer

Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni announced that his cancer has returned. He made the announcement today that it was reconfirmed at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa yesterday. He is awaiting results from his tests while the cancer team at Moffitt can determine a treatment strategy.

John Morroni named County Commission Chair

At the Dec. 6 Board of County Commissioners meeting, board members named Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni chairman for 2012. He replaces outgoing chair Susan Latvala.

Commissioner Ken Welch was selected as vice chair.

Morroni has represented single-member District 6 on the commission since 2000, previously holding office in the Florida House of Representatives (1992-2000). He served as commission chairman in 2005. He and his family live in Feather Sound.

Man, woman put up fight during traffic stop

St. Petersburg, FL -- Officers arrested two people Monday night after they found drugs, cash and a loaded weapon in their car during a traffic stop.

According to police, 25-year-old Jimmie Flournoy and 22-year-old Bianca Harvey did not go down without a fight. Around 9:25 p.m., Street Crimes officers followed the pair driving in a silver Kia to 811 27th Ave. N. where they then approached the car.

Commissioner Welch schedules Community Office Hours

Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch will host Community Office Hours on Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the West St. Petersburg Community Library at St. Petersburg College, first-floor, Room LI142, 6700 Eighth Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

The Community Office Hours program allows Pinellas residents to voice their opinions, ideas and concerns relating to county issues, without having to travel to the County Courthouse in downtown Clearwater.

No appointment is necessary; the commissioner will meet with constituents on a first-come, first-served basis.
