St. Petersburg, Florida -- A seasoned executive who has spent the last 35 years serving the needs of homeless individuals in Pinellas County will start on Monday, June 3 as St. Petersburg's new social services planning manager.

Three high school seniors honored during scholarship awards

Pinellas County, Florida -- The N.O.P.E (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force presented scholarships to three high school students to help cover college costs. 

The NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force, Pinellas Chapter, recently presented three high school seniors with scholarships during award presentations at Dunedin, East Lake and Largo High Schools. A total of three scholarships were awarded during the ceremonies; one for $1000, one for $750 and one for $500.

Local fire chief selected as Tampa Bay's 10 leading men

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Fire Chief James D. Large of St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue was selected as one of Tampa Bay's 10 Leading Men for 2013.

Blu Magazine, known as Tampa Bay’s Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, chose Chief Large and nine other local leading business men, based on a variety of criteria, including community involvement, philanthropic efforts and personal style.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office hosted their annual awards ceremony on Thursday, May 16, 2013. The awards ceremony recognizes courageous service, as well as, personal initiative in solving crimes and providing public service.

The Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year was awarded to Deputy Jim Piper and Detective Holly Tsanakaliotis. These two deputies acted courageously to save a four-year-old boy's life by administering CPR.

100 men in 100 days

Pinellas County, Florida -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas is having an upcoming event that needs 100 volunteers.

100 men volunteers to be exact.

Currently there are 131 boys who are waiting to be matched with a a male mentor in the program. Starting June 1 through September 8, the agency plants to recruit 100 male volunteers and match them with one of the boys who still need mentors.

Local Host Families Needed for Visiting Takamatsu Students

 

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Two high school juniors have been selected to represent St. Petersburg as student ambassadors for the annual Takamatsu cultural exchange program. The city's International Relations Committee announced that Katherine "KC" Shelton from Lakewood High School, and Tien Weber, St. Petersburg High School student in the International Baccalaureate program, will have the opportunity to travel to Takamatsu, Japan for several weeks this summer to learn first-hand about life in Japan and to share about life in Florida.

Pinellas County, Florida -- At a meeting on Tueaday, May 7, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners named this year’s Emergency Medical Services Professionals of the Year.    

The awards are given each year in May in honor of EMS Week, locally commemorating the EMS professionals working for Pinellas County’s emergency medical services system.
