WIC drive-through offers real "fast food"

Pinellas County, Florida -- As an added convenience to busy parents, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County's Mid-County center provides quick pick-up of WIC checks at a drive-through window modeled after those at banks and fast-food restaurants.

WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered in Florida by the Department of Health.

Bank of America hosting "Homeowner Assistance Event" Thursday

Tampa, Florida-- Right now, Bank of America specialists are helping out customers on both sides of the bay.

They're taking a look at locals' financial situations to try and find ways to avoid foreclosure during "Homeowner Assistance Events".

One session took place Wednesday, and another is set for Thursday, April 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Activist calls Florida's texting while driving bill "weak"

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Cars speed down the road, but in Florida a ban on texting while driving has not had smooth travels. Safe-driving advocates have tried for years to get a measure passed, but finally, it looks like they'll drive one through.

This week the Senate unanimously passed a texting ban bill and Clearwater limo driver Jake Kletch thinks it's a good idea. 

"If you're behind the wheel of a car you should be driving-plain and simple," he says.

Update: Woman's body found in St. Pete canal

St. Petersburg, Florida-- Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the discovery of a female's body in a local canal. 

The body has been identified as 56-year-old Susan Janet Hendricks of St. Petersburg.

According to detectives, a nurse at the Jacaranda Retirement Home was outside on a break when he discovered the body of a female in the canal, pulled it out of the water and called 911. 

The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct and autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

Grants to improve Tampa pedestrian safety

Tampa, Florida-- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will provide multiple Tampa Bay area law enforcement agencies with funding to make the streets safer for pedestrians. 

According to officials, pedestrian deaths have recently declined in Tampa, but numbers still double the national average of pedestrian fatalities.

Now, a multi-agency operation is underway to continue Tampa's decreasing death trend. 

UPDATE: Temporary road closure in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, Florida --  All traffic lanes on 62nd Avenue North are open in St. Petersburg. 

It was closed earlier because one person has been injured as a result of a brawl and rescue was on scene. 

There is no information regarding the incident at this time.
