Wrong way driver causes crash on I-275 in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, Florida - Traffic is backed up along I-275 in south St. Petersburg after a driver drove the wrong way, driving north in the southbound lanes and causing several cars to collide.

It happened on the Interstate at 54th Avenue South, which is exit 17.

Investigators are checking reports that the driver then did a U-turn and caused another crash after crossing the median while trying to enter the correct northbound lanes.

The driver at fault reportedly fled the scene.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue is on the scene. So far, the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
