ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - A southwest Florida math teacher is getting students around the world excited about math thanks to some creative YouTube postings.

St. Petersburg High School teacher Rob Tarrou began recording lessons on algebra, trigonometry and statistics last year and posting them online to help a student who couldn't attend class.

The Tampa Bay Times reports people around the world have watched "Tarrou's Chalk Talk" videos more than half a million times. More than 3,000 people from more than 100 countries have subscribed to his online channel.

A lesson on "z-score Calculations & Percentiles in a Normal Distribution" had more than 33,000 views.

Tarrou even says he had a pen pal in Iceland for statistics.
