ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A number of voters in the Bay area on Sunday participated in "Souls to the Polls." It's an initiative that organizes communities of faith to vote early, this being the only Sunday in the early voting period.

Congregations gathered together to march to polls and cast their ballots. In St Petersburg, a group with "People of Faith for Obama" showed up at the Pinellas County Building at 501 1st Avenue North. Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist also attended the event and voted early.

"Souls to the Polls" participants also cast ballots at the Supervisor of Elections Office in Largo.

Faith leaders from 44 congregations in six cities participated in the effort to mobilize voters. Organizers estimate more the 2,000 faith voters, mostly African-American and Latino, will vote early as a result of the coordinated, state-wide event.
