St. Petersburg, Florida -- A man was hospitalized Thursday morning after his was hit by a truck while trying to cross 3rd Avenue South in St. Pete.

St. Pete Police say the accident happened around 8:30 a.m. at 3rd Avenue S. and 5th Street S. 

Their investigation revealed as 53-year-old David Dale was crossing 3rd Avenue from the south side parking lot, Donald Mosman was making a left hand turn onto the road from the 5th Avenue southbound lanes. Just as Dale was entering the westbound left turn lane he was hit by Mosman's Ford truck.

During impact, Dale's head hit the pavement. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center and is reportedly in critical condition. Mosman, 33, was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
