St. Petersburg, FL - One a day when classes were cancelled because of a fire on campus, Green Devils head coach Joe Frabrizio was looking for a spark of a different kind.
Trailing the Gibbs Gladiators 14-6 in the third quarter, St. Petersburg got that spark from Laroy Williams, better known to his teammates as "Speedy"
Williams scored on a 63-yard run, that helped the Green Devils score 24 unanswered points, giving them a lead they would not relinquish.
Late in the gate, with Gibbs trailing by 10, St. Petersburg's defense came up big. Junior LB Riley Barr, intercepted a Patric Jones pass on the goal line, preserving the comeback.
Gibbs had nearly 500 yards of offense, but it wasn't enough as St. Petersburg holds off the Gladiators 30-20.
Next Friday, St. Petersburg will host Palm Harbor University, while Gibbs will play their home opener against Lennard.
