ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - The state president for Duke Energy subsidiary Progress Energy Florida has announced that he will retire by the end of the year.

According to a news release sent Wednesday, 57-year-old Vincent M. Dolan says he will retire by the end of 2012. He has been with Duke Energy and its predecessors Progress Energy and Florida Power Corp. since 1986. He has led the company's Florida utility since 2009.

Duke Energy has named R. Alexander Glenn as Dolan's successor. Glenn is currently the Florida utility's general counsel and has been with the company since 1996.

Progress Energy Florida provides electricity and related services to more than 1.6 million customers in the state. The company's headquarters are in St. Petersburg.
