Pinellas Republicans pick Stuart in straw poll

St. Petersburg, Florida -- An unanticipated winner in a straw poll vote for the U.S. senate seat.

Republicans voted overwhelming Monday night for underdog candidate Marielena Stuart, beating out former Senator George Lemieux, Congresswoman Connie Mack, Former Representative Dave Weldon, and retired Army Colonel Mike McCalister.

Neither Mack nor McCalister attended the event.

Stuart is a South Florida Republican who was born in Cuba, and her family left the country for the U.S. back in the 1960's.

She's married and has home-schooled her children. She's pro-life and would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned and the so-called "Obamacare" reversed. She's a conservative writer and has served as an interpreter with fluency in French and Spanish.
