Clearwater, Florida -- On Saturday, April 29, an anti-rail group is holding a Light Rail Forum for residents interested in learning about an effort underway to raise the county sales tax in order to establish light rail from Clearwater to St. Petersburg.
The event, to be held at 2 p.m. at Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater, is free and is sponsored by the South Pinellas 912 Patriots.
The forum will feature three speakers:
Randall O'Toole, senior fellow with the CATO Institute and author of "Gridlock: Why We're Stuck in Traffic and What to do About it", will present a wide range of innovative ideas and policy recommendations for creating an effective transportation system.
Ed Braddy, executive director of the American Dream Coalition, will address local governments dramatically increasing tax and regulatory burders, pushing policies like Smart Growth and pursuing fads like light rail transit at the expense of easinBarbara Haselden, Organizer South Pinellas 912 Patriots, will update us on local light rail status, along with 1% sales tax momentum in Pinellas County.g traffic congestion.
