St. Petersburg, Florida -- The City of St. Petersburg recently installed an additional 275 new parking meters in the downtown area.
Specifically, meters were installed in the area bounded by Beach Drive Northeast, Sixth Street North, Central Avenue, and Second Avenue North.
This was the fifth phase of meter installation since a 2003 parking assessment study recommended meters to be installed throughout downtown. These efforts were in accord with the city striving to supply adequate on-street parking while maintaining a healthy, viable off-street parking system and balanced budget.
Each of the phased-in meter installations was designed to achieve several goals; increase parking turnover for business customers, provide congestion relief, enhance the parking alternatives available, effectively manage parking resources, and generate revenue.
