St. Pete officials to address parking lot woes

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - Officials will discuss rule changes after more than a dozen fans returned to a legitimately permitted parking lot to find their vehicles had been towed after a Tampa Bay Rays game.

The Tampa Bay Times reports 14 people parked in the lot on the team's opening day on April 6 had to pay about $100 to get their vehicles back. The private lot had been listed on the city's map as approved for special events.

Police say A-1 Recovery Towing towed the vehicles on behalf of the lot's property manager Mike Shinshoni. He told police he had no idea it was listed on the city's map. Officials later determined a previous owner had gotten the special events permit in 2009.

Officials will address the issue in a meeting Thursday.
