Police: Man held ex-lover prisoner before slaying
News

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tampa Bay-area authorities say a man held his ex-boyfriend prisoner before fatally shooting him and fleeing to North Carolina.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Friday that a cell phone video shot Dec. 21 shows 21-year-old Landy Martinez-Esquivel bound and crying in a bathtub while saying "it's not Jose's fault."

The Tampa Bay Times reports that an hour later, Martinez-Esquivel called 911. Gualtieri said the shots 24-year-old Jose Magana Adame then fired into Martinez-Esquivel's head and chest could be heard on the call.

Deputies found Martinez-Esquivel dead after a homeowner asked for a welfare check.

Authorities say Adame fled to North Carolina, where he was arrested on unrelated burglary charges. A Pinellas County grand jury has indicted him on a murder charge. Gualtieri says Adame has denied killing Martinez-Esquivel.
