Who Shot Lady Liberty? | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
St. Petersburg, Fla. -- "It's the most UNwonderful time of the year." Tax time! We Americans are scrambling. Pawing through piles of receipts, 1099's and other documents, looking for proof of any possible deductions. Despite all the smart phones and organizational software programs there are still a few disorganized folks left.
Meanwhile, at the northeast corner of 38th Ave. North and 66th Street on a recent Sunday afternoon, Lady Liberty lay in a pitiful pile on the grass in front of Liberty Tax File Services. Did someone kill her? Perhaps an angry taxpayer? Or maybe she was the victim of strong winds sweeping through the area in the last few days.
Anyone who knows this corner, would know it was a Sunday. The rest of the week there is a literal three ring circus performance going on.
An Uncle Sam impersonator parades and dances as he slings his arrow sign around. Lady Liberty, a smaller costumed model of the ballooned Lady, also struts the corner with her sign held high. The huge inflated version looks on. "Give me your poor - Give me your tired" she seems to be thinking. What better description of American taxpayers?
Drivers beware - if you go by this corner you may be so distracted by the show, you could lose control of your vehicle.
But no matter what, make sure you get those taxes filed. As the old saying goes: "There is nothing certain in this life, but Death and Taxes."
