Local fire chief selected as Tampa Bay's 10 leading men

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Fire Chief James D. Large of St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue was selected as one of Tampa Bay's 10 Leading Men for 2013.

Blu Magazine, known as Tampa Bay’s Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, chose Chief Large and nine other local leading business men, based on a variety of criteria, including community involvement, philanthropic efforts and personal style.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The St. Petersburg Police Department's newly formed DROP Unit has come out with its first video. 

The DROP Unit (Deterrence, Response, Outreach & Prevention) was recently formed to work closely with other units in the Department to quickly identify crime patterns or trends when they occur and develop strategies to prevent these crimes from spreading or expanding in a particular area.

Woman, 63, in critical condition after brutal break-in

St. Petersburg, Florida-- "It's absolutely disgusting."

That's what one neighbor said about the alleged actions of three suspects: Christopher Andrews, Danielle Tennis and Carrie Marcink, who cops say hatched a plot to rob a home... but it almost ended in death for the owner, 63-year-old Jihi McEvoy .

According to police, Marcink was friends with McEvoy's son Mickey White, who lives in the home with her. Marcink asked him to go with her to the ATM so she could pay back money she owed him, but that was the diversion.

Officials break ground on new Sylvia's restaurant

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Representatives of Urban Development Solutions, Inc. and the city of St. Petersburg invite the media to the official groundbreaking festivities for the new Sylvia's Restaurant at the historic Manhattan Casino, 642 22nd St. S. on Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m.

The new restaurant will feature the world famous soul food of Sylvia's Restaurant, a New York institution since its doors opened in Harlem in 1962.

Representatives from Sylvia's will be in attendance at the groundbreaking.
