St. Petersburg, Fla. -- John Vigue knows the tradition of St. Pete Catholic baseball. All the way back to when the school was Bishop Barry.
That's when his father, James Vigue, led Bishop Barry to three state tournaments in in four years, including the 1972 state championship.
In just four years, the younger Vigue has turned around a program that struggled since his dad finished coaching there. This is just the third playoff appearance for the Barons since 1994.
The Barons are led by a strong senior class that has mirrored Vigue's plan. Their head coaches says "resilient" is the best way to describe his team. After a 10-9 start to 2012, SPC has rattled off 10 consecutive wins, often in close, late-inning fashion.
SPC faces American Heritage of Delray/Boca in the 3A state semifinal.
