Tobacco Companies - Giving tobacco candy to babies | Health
St. Petersburg, Florida – City Council members unanimously passed a resolution calling on the tobacco Industry to stop making flavored tobacco products and for stores to stop selling them at Thursday, Feb. 9 session.
Mariana Leslie, Students Working Against Tobacco (S.W.A.T.) Coordinator, brought the resolution request forward.
During the presentation, it was reported that SWAT did a survey of over 50 St. Petersburg stores and every one had some variation of candy flavored tobacco products for sale. These candy flavored tobacco products are aimed directly at children, especially in the 11 to 14 year-old age bracket. Smoking and its health risks are a proven pediatric disease.
Council Member Wengay Newton said, “Tobacco is only product that kills its customers and lures in new.”
