Beat Black Friday with local shops' Shopapalooza

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - St. Pete's answer to "Black Friday" is just a few days away, with "Shopapalooza 2011" ready to hit the Pier this Saturday.

The shopping event, filled with local shops and vendors, is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A partial list of vendors can be found on LocalShops1's website.

Shopapalooza coming to St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - LocalShops1.com is excited to announce that Shopapalooza 2011 taking place Nov. 19 at the St. Pete Pier. Shopapalooza is the local alternative to Black Friday.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., had to be moved from USF-St. Petersburg.

Heritage Village hosts Farm-City Day

Pinellas County’s Heritage Village will host a Farm-City Day celebration on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event is the kickoff for Farm-City Week, celebrated nationally each year during the week leading up to Thanksgiving. It was created to educate citizens about agriculture and to enhance links between rural and urban dwellers.

Tired of pounding the pavement on the same ole’ 5K race course? Go-pher a fun and a different seven-kilometers that will take runners and walkers along well maintained dirt and board walk trails through native Florida habitats.

Enjoy the gorgeous views in one of Tampa Bay’s hidden gems, Weedon Island Preserve. Participants may see egrets, herons and spoonbills that populate the preserve as well as relic Indian mounds and dune ridges left by the preserve’s earliest inhabitants. A slow-moving gopher tortoise may even be spotted along the way!

St. Petersburg, FL -- Who is the fastest drink mixer in the Bay? The Garden Restaurant will host Tampa Bay's Fastest Bartender competition.

Central Avenue closes to traffic Monday, Nov. 14 between 2:30 and 11 p.m. for the block party-style event. Central Avenue will be closed between Second and Third streets N.

There will also be live music and food from area restaurants.

You're encouraged to park in the BayWalk garage, located at 117 Second Ave. N.
