St. Petersburg, Florida -- Detectives are asking for the public's help finding the driver of a car responsible for killing a dog in an alleyway Monday.
Investigators say a witness saw a blue 4-door sedan head west in the alley behind 5149 3rd Avenue North around 7:51 a.m. A moment later, the same car was seen speeding west back down the alley while a Jack Russell terrier, named "Snoopy," was running in front of it.
The witness said the driver of the car never stopped and appeared to run the dog over on purpose. The witness did not get a good look at the driver of the car. However, police say it's likely the person lives or knows someone in the immediate area.
"Snoopy" died at the scene and the owner told deputies he had slipped out from his fenced-in backyard not far from where he was hit.
Investigators were able to recover a home security camera from a neighbor with a view of the alley that recorded the incident.
