Sex offender back in jail on sexual battery charges | Crime
St. Petersburg, Florida -- A man accused of violently attacking a woman in Lealman Wednesday night is in police custody Thursday.
According to police, 52-year-old Eric Smith sexually battered a woman in the 2800 block of 58th Avenue North around midnight. Police found the woman soon after partially naked and visibly shaken from the attack.
The woman told police Smith threatened her with a knife. She suffered a serious cut to her hand during the attack.
Smith was arrested around 1:45 a.m. near Park Boulevard and US 19 North. Smith is a registered sex offender and is being held without bond on charges of sexual battery and aggravated battery.
