St. Pete company celebrates 100 years | Business

St. Petersburg, FL -- Celebrating 100 years of business, Boyd Construction Company was honored with the City of St. Petersburg Sunshine Ambassador Award on Thursday.

City Councilmember Jeff Danner recognized the company for generations of success in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Florida.  

The company originated in Hobart, Ind., and began Florida operations in 1974.

"Throughout the past century our family has been recognized as a leader in the industry", says Peter Boyd, President of Boyd Construction Company in Florida. "We've always believed in hard work and dedication to the clients that we serve and that will never change; we're focused on the next 100 years."

Vincent R. Boyd, Sr., nicknamed 'Doc', started Boyd Construction Company in 1911.  

In 1974, Boyd Construction began working in Sarasota, rapidly gaining clients throughout the state.

During the 1970's and early 1980's Boyd Construction Company operated in two locations, one in Florida, and the original location in Indiana. 

In the latter 1980's, Richard Boyd closed the doors in the Florida office to focus on the economic boom of the Midwest.

Peter Boyd, great-grandson of 'Doc' Boyd, opened the St. Petersburg office in 2009 on Central Ave. after receiving his Certified General Contractor's License in the state of Florida.
