St. Petersburg, Florida -- The 4th Annual Stand Against Racisim Event will be held on Friday, April 27, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum at 2240 Ninth Avenue South and is free and open to the public.
The title of this year's event takes on overtones of Florida's high profile, "Stand Your Ground Law" which has been making headlines across the country and the world due to the recent shooting and death of a black youth by a white neighborhood crime patrol volunteer in Sanford, Florida.
The event will include subject matter experts, dialogue, film clips, entertainment and refreshments.
A poster for the event reads, "Race and the legacy of discrimination continue to affect our lives - whether in our everyday interactions with others at work, school, or in our neighborhoods and communities".
Multiple organizations are joining with the YWCA of Tampa Bay as sponsors of the the evening, including: People Advocating Change Together (PACT), Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, St. Petersburg Healthy Start Federal Project, Addressing Racism to Create Health Equity in Pinellas (ARCHE-P) formerly Pinellas Infant Mortality and Racism Action Group (PIMAR), League of Women Voters, St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Rise Up St. Pete, Pinellas Food Council, St. Pete Area Food Policy Council and Bon Secours St. Petersburg.
