Officials break ground on new Sylvia's restaurant

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Representatives of Urban Development Solutions, Inc. and the city of St. Petersburg invite the media to the official groundbreaking festivities for the new Sylvia's Restaurant at the historic Manhattan Casino, 642 22nd St. S. on Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m.

The new restaurant will feature the world famous soul food of Sylvia's Restaurant, a New York institution since its doors opened in Harlem in 1962.

Representatives from Sylvia's will be in attendance at the groundbreaking.

A temporary hiring center has opened in the Pinellas Professional Center, Suite 204, located at 7800 66th St. N. near the intersection of 78th Avenue North and 66th Street North.

Online job fair for Tampa Bay's youth

Clearwater, Florida -- From May 12 to May 18, people will have access to job opportunities through an online job fair targeting job seekers ages 14 to 24. 

The hiring event will span a four-county radius including Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough and Pinellas. 

“The virtual job fair is an opportunity to connect youth with employment so that they may gain the skills and experience necessary to become successful future members of the workforce,” said Edward Peachey, President and CEO of the Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance and WorkNet Pinellas.

Business opportunities at Reverse Trade Show

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Small business owners and operators are invited to learn how they can increase their bottom line by doing business with the city and becoming a city vendor during a free Reverse Trade Show.

The event takes place on Friday, May 3. Representatives from up to 20 city departments who purchase more than $210 million in services and supplies annually will be on hand to help business owners determine if a match exists between the city and their product or service.

The show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the historic Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N.

Tampa real estate booming; leads state

Tampa, Florida-- The numbers are in, and they are up! More homes were sold last month in the Tampa Bay area than in in the past seven years combined.

According to MLS figures, 3,100 homes were sold in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties last month, a 7 percent increase compared to the same month in 2012.

Home sales prices also increased, up 22 percent over the same time period. 

The average home in the Tampa Bay area sold for $150,000.
