Rock-n-Roll Throwathon

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Morean Arts Center invites you to listen to the music and watch six potters, lead by Don Williams, work from two wheels and throw like crazy.

They plan to produce 30 or 40 pieces.

The event will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Train Stations Center for Clay.

You can register online.

They'll serve light refreshments. This event is free and work will be available for sale.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Come out Tuesday, May 8 to see Pinellas teens shine in the 2nd Annual Showcase of Achievement Awards featuring 14 county-wide middle and high school performances on stage.  Also performing will be Paulette Walker Johnson's Performing Arts Academy.

Kids' Poster Contest in honor of Be Kind to Animals Week

Pinellas County, Florida -- In honor of Be Kind to Animals Week (May 6-12), the Humane Society of Pinellas is sponsoring a poster contest for kids.

The theme is "What does my pet need to be healthy and happy?"

Entries must be original artwork on regular poster board and can be any media such as marker, paint, ink, crayon, etc. Entries may be delivered to the Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, FL 33759. All poster contest submissions must be received by May 31.

Send kids to art and clay camp

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Looking for a creative place to send the kids for summer break?  The Morean Arts Center is accepting registration now for the week-long camps for various age groups.

If mom or dad is looking for a break, there are camps for grown-ups too. Kids can explore different art processes and learn dfferent clay techniques like pinching and coiling.

The spots are first come, first served.  There are discounts for signing up for multiple weeks.

Leading art museums take part in Diggin' the Arts

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Some of the Bay area's leading art museums and institutions are taking part in The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation's Diggin' the Arts Sunday, May 6.

Here's a list of how the art institutions are taking part:

Museum of Fine Arts of St. Petersburg - visitors may color reproductions of The Poppy by Georgia O'Keefe, from the permanent collection.

Florida Craftsmen - Representatives will crochet for Crochet Coral Reef exhibit and give instructions.  The Crochet Coral Reef opens in June at the Florida Craftsmen.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Downtown Partnership, working in conjunction with the artistic community and the City of St. Petersburg, has created movement for the designation of the city's Warehouse Arts District.

Located in an industrial area just west of Downtown St. Petersburg (between 16th Street & 31st Street and 1st Avenue North & 10th Avenue South), the Warehouse Arts District has emerged as the City's hub for artists and "Where Art is Made."
