New library coming to St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach, Florida -- Although the city planned to renovate the library in three years, residents could see construction on a new building start much sooner.

The Pinellas Public Library Cooperative (PPLC) has traditionally offered construction grants, but the news that this year will be the last year for such grants has city staff planning ahead.

Student artwork on display honors Black History Month

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Schools has announced student artists from Dunedin and St. Petersburg in the Transition program are presenting their work in an exhibit called “Zora, James and Augusta: Honoring Florida’s Harlem Renaissance Artists.”

The artwork is on display at the Morean Arts Center, 719 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, and will remain there until Feb. 28.

Enroll the kids in Spring Break Art Camp

St. Petersburg, Florida -- You can inspire your kid's inner artist at Spring Break Art Camp. Practically Pikasso is already taking reservations.

The camp starts March 25 at 9:30 a.m. and runs until March 29 at 4 p.m.

Campers will experience a variety of different art mediums including: clay, ceramics, mosaics, spin art, tie-dye, bubble painting, glass painting, etc. Ages 5 through 12 are welcome.

Dale Chihuly returns to St. Pete with The Sealife Stoppers

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Dale Chihuly will be in St. Petersburg to mark the arrival of a temporary new installation to the Chihuly collection. You can see the Sealife Stoppers March 8 through June 30 at the Chihuly Collection.

The series was inspired by Chihuly's collaboration with Italian masters Pino Signoretto and Lino Tagliapietra using Venetian sculptural techniques to emulate sea creatures.

PTEC campuses host regional SkillsUSA competition this week

More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.

During the special after hours viewing of Dale Chihuly's masterpieces, a solo violist will play classical music.

Jennifer Klich is an accomplished violist who has performed with symphonies, soloists, and string quartets surrounding the Denver, Cleveland and Myrtle Beach areas.
