ORLANDO, Florida -- A hole in the driver's side door marks the point of impact. Orlando Police say a St. Petersburg man was driving home with his wife from Orlando when he felt a sudden and sharp pain.
Police say the man was shot by a stray bullet while driving westbound back to St. Petersburg on I-4. Investigators believe the bullet was fired from a nearby neighborhood.
"He didn't ask for it. He wasn't expecting it," said neighbor Ryan Stran. "How do you avoid that situation if you're just driving down the street?"
The family didn't feel up to speaking about the incident on camera Monday night, and have since asked not to be identified.
"I know he's a really nice guy," said Stran. "He's got some really nice kids. You can do so much good in the world and so much bad can happen to you. You don't even expect it."
The victim's daughter is a soccer player for the UCF Golden Knights.
Orlando Police are investigating the incident and have since learned Orange County Sheriff's deputies responded to a neighborhood along I-4 after receiving reports of gunfire around the time of the shooting.
"It's serious stuff," said Stran. "You can't do whatever you want to do and think you're going to get away with it. People these days don't seem to be thinking about people around them."
The victim is back home in St. Petersburg, and expected to make a full recovery.
