St. Petersburg, Florida -- This weekend, city leaders will designate the Jennie Hall Pool as a historic landmark.
Afterwards, you'll be able to swim for free from noon to 3 p.m. Back in the 1950s when St. Petersburg was a segregated city, the pool was built to serve the African-American community.
All of the city's pools became open to people of all races in 1959. While the pool was considered a local landmark as of December 2011, a plaque will be unveiled serving as a reminder of the community's unity on Saturday, Aug. 18 at noon.
The free swim is sponsored by the city's preservation society.
