St. Petersburg, Florida -- Fort De Soto is turning 50.

Fort De Soto has been named America's Best Beach, and one of the 20 most beautiful beaches in the world, according to Trip Advisor. 

To help celebrate the anniversary there will be a big beach bash on Saturday, May 11. Activities throughout the day will be reminiscent of the original opening of the park, featuring the Tampa Bay Water Ski Show and special guest, reigning Miss Florida 2012 Laura McKeeman. 

Gator bait: Fleeing suspect busted by alligator

Pinellas Park, Florida - "Taking a bite out of crime" lives up to its meaning after a Pinellas Park man comes face-to-face with an alligator.

It started as 20-year-old Brian Zuniga was being pulled over by a Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy just before 3 a.m. Thursday for failing to maintain his lane.

"I left to go to work early this morning and I saw a bunch of deputy cars down on one of the cul-de-sacs," said resident Darren Davis.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has set an all-time record for ridership in the month of April.

Residents have take more rides April 2013 than in any other April in PSTA history. 

Agency leaders say there are several reliable factors that can affect ridership such as fuel prices. With those costs dropping recently, they credit job growth and continued record tourism for the new high.

Officer gets job back after fatal crash

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The St. Petersburg police officer who was fired in August for running over and killed a man in his wheelchair in February 2012 is getting his job back.

The department says its hands are tied and relatives are furious.

"We thought it was a closed situation," said Rhonda Fleming Collier.

FDA inspection triggers recall by St. Pete pharmacy

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - The Food and Drug Administration is warning doctors and pharmacists to avoid drugs made by a Florida specialty pharmacy called The Compounding Shop, due to potential safety problems uncovered by health inspectors.

The Compounding Shop is a compounding pharmacy, which means it mixes custom formulations of drugs to meet doctor's specifications.
