St. Pete Council elections just weeks away

St. Pete Council elections just weeks away

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Residents who requested ballots by mail are now receiving them for the city's Nov. 8 general election.

Four city council seats are up for grabs, although District 5 incumbent Steve Kornell faces no opponent.  If voters don't choose a "new election" over Kornell, he'll return to council for four more years.

In District 1, Charlie Gerdes will try to beat Bob Kersteen again after an impressive showing in the August primary.

Wheldon remembered as racer and family man

St. Petersburg, Florida - Dan Wheldon wowed people on and off the racetrack. It seems he was born with an irresistible combination of speed and charm. Perhaps that's why hundreds of people filled First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg Saturday morning for his funeral.

While those closest to Wheldon entered the church first, dozens of others waited on the sidewalk to see if they too could pay their respects.

"I just wanted to say goodbye to someone who was the face of St. Pete," said Brittany Sirban.
