Son shoots at father during argument over laptop

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A St. Petersburg man who was once the subject of a SWAT deployment is in trouble with the law again after shooting at his father during an argument over a laptop.

St. Petersburg police say Adrian Exposito and his son, 22-year-old Andrew, were having an argument Sunday morning where Andrew agreed to pack up his belongings and leave their home on 74th Street North. While packing, Andrew took a laptop belonging to his father.

St. Pete Beach, Fla.- After a successful fundraising event in 2011, the Veterans of South Pinellas County are holding their 2nd Annual Charity Pancake Breakfast to benefit local men and women in the military.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Hurricane Restaurant (807 Gulf Way).

In addition to pancakes, the event will showcase military vehicles, military weapons, a rock-climbing wall, and an antique fire truck.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Morton Plant Mease’s sports medicine program will provide physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists to offer Pinellas County high school student-athletes free sports physicals again this year.

The exams include checks of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, lungs and musculoskeletal system. Pediatric cardiac nurses will be available for heart health screenings. The Morton Plant Mease Lung Center will also be on hand to offer students information on managing asthma symptoms.

Power opens IndyCar season with pole at St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Will Power led a strong Penske Racing effort in qualifying for the IndyCar season opener by winning the pole for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Power set an IndyCar track record of 1:01.3721 over the winding 1.8-mile course through the streets of St. Petersburg. His Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe qualified second at 1:01.5357.

Andretti Autosport qualified third and fourth behind Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe, while Penske's Helio Castroneves was fifth as Chevrolet's took the top five spots.

Clearwater, Florida - Nearly four hours after they began deliberating, a jury in the Nicholas Lindsey cop killer case returned a guilty verdict of first-degree capital murder.

The 17-year-old will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Lindsey was not eligible for the death penalty because he is a minor.

"This is a dark time in your life, Mr. Lindsey," said Judge Thane Covert, as he sentenced the teen to life in prison. "It was a dark time in the history of St. Petersburg."

Drivers remember Wheldon as racing returns to St. Pete

St. Petersburg, Florida - He was one of Tampa Bay's hometown heroes - a race car driver loved by just about everyone he met.

"There was a definite spirit to him that lit up a room," said T.E. McHale, one of Wheldon's Honda teammates and a close friend. "What happened in Vegas brought us all back to reality ... this is pretty dangerous."
